Floating Crude Storage in Scapa Flow

Orkney's natural harbour of Scapa Flow is the ideal location for floating storage of crude oil. Almost completely encircled by land but with over 30 square miles of water, in excess of 30 metres deep, Scapa Flow is in effect an inland sea where there is no swell. This makes it the perfect location for the safe anchoring of tankers chartered for long term crude storage. The harbour can accomodate the largest ships afloat today.

During previous oil contango periods we had numerous fully laden VLCCs at anchor in Scapa Flow simultaneously. The needs of these vessels were all fully met and the feedback from the customers involved was all positive. Numerous Ship to ship transfers were conducted out of these vessels as cargoes and part cargoes were sold.

Crew changes, fresh water (delivered by tug), ship's stores, spares and bunkers are all available and can be arranged locally by us, as can crew shore leave by launch.

Rates

The current rate to anchor a ship over 100,000 GT in Scapa Flow is GBP 150 per day, with lesser rates for Suezmax and Aframax size tankers. Pilotage and towage is payable to conduct the vessel inside port limits to a safe anchorage. Please contact us for a full proforma for your planned vessel or indeed a more detailed discussion of your needs.
